About
Too often the Jewish world and we who make up the sum of its parts take ourselves too seriously. There is so much angst and fear due to the political situation in Israel and anti-Semitism around the world that we often forget about the joy that there is around us.
JewTribe is my personal view of the Jewish condition. How we see ourselves and how others see us as well.
I surf the net with an insatiable hunger. Along the way I find many things that distress and make me worry about the future of our younger generations. But just as often I come across great moments of pride, artistry and self-belief.
It’s often in the form of video. For this is the medium, that the future of the net and so the diary of our lives will be written in. Sometimes it’s funny, often paradoxical and disappointingly occasionally sad.
So with those resources at hand I hope to provide an eclectic, whimsical but hopefully interesting blog. With that in mind I encourage you to click on the links to various articles I have read, watch the videos and leave some of your own thoughts as comments.
As Jews we are always seeking better ways to define our identity and come to some accommodation with the pluralism we live with, especially for those of us in the diaspora.
There is a duality that spans our spiritual, religious and traditional upbringing. Whether you’re frum, not so frum, all the way to ‘my bubi was Jewish, but me not so much’ Our innate need to expand the depths of our understanding of ourselves and others of similar heritage, continues to bring us together.
With much of the noise coming from the large Jewish population in the USA and obviously Israel, it may seem at times that there are few Jews elsewhere. But there are so many more around the globe with fascinating stories and communities that I will endeavour to make sure that I source sufficient subject matter and inspiration from all corners of the globe.
If in your own travels you find items of interest, please let me know. If you feel that you can contribute with your own story, be brave, write and submit it. I would love to publish it.
Most importantly though, I hope to make some new friends. Add yourself to my Facebook page, subscribe or just send me an email. Jewish survival is dependent on Tikun Olam. The best place is to start with ourselves.
