What it means to be a member of the Tribe

Someone once said ” How do yo know if you have been a successful Jewish parent? the answer If your grandchildren  still identify as Jewish”

Of course Judaism today finds as  many interpretations as there are Jews. There is no right answer . But as long as there is some answer then perhaps there is hope for future generations.

I stumbled across this Video by Andrew Lustig. Although  the beginning is a bit shmaltzy and I would have cut it short , wait a minute and Andrew’s words will ring true . He starts of with

 

I am the collective pride and excitement that is felt when we find out that that new actor, that great athlete, his chief of staff… is Jewish

I am the collective guilt and shame that is felt when we find out that that serial killer, that Ponzi schemer, that wife beater… is Jewish

Watch and listen and I am sure some of what he says will ring true with some of you.
